It looks as if Wizard World’s convention won’t be returning to San Antonio, Texas, in 2015. A Wizard World spokesman said the company couldn’t come up with a date that fit the schedule of the city’s Henry B. Gomez Convention Center, adding, “We hope to revisit the possibility for 2016.” However, reporter Rene Guzman notes that San Antonio’s Alamo City Comic Con was a much bigger deal this year, in terms of the exhibit floor (it took up three exhibit halls of the convention center, compared to Wizards’ one) and probably attendance as well: Wizard World said its inaugural event in August drew “thousands,” and Alamo City had 73,000 attendees, almost twice as many as last year. There will be a Wizard World Austin conventionn in 2015, so anyone wanting a taste of that Wizard magic can find it a short road trip away.

SAN ANTONIO — Scratch one comic con off your 2015 to-do list. Looks like Wizard World San Antonio Comic Con will not return next year, based on the Wizard World 2015 tour schedule.
"Unfortunately we haven't been able to come up with a date that works for both our schedule and that of the Convention Center," said Wizard World spokesman Jerry Milani via email. "We hope to revisit the possibility for 2016."
The geek/pop culture extravaganza debuted in San Antonio in August with celebs like "Star Trek" great William Shatner, John Barrowman of "Arrow" and "Torchwood" fame and other sci-fi stars, plus your requisite pro wrestlers and of course comic book artists and writers.
But Wizard World S.A. didn't exactly blow the doors off the Convention Center with its inaugural showing. If memory serves, the debut con just took up one main exhibit hall, compared to the gigantic return of the homegrown Alamo City Comic Con in September, which featured comics legend Stan Lee and other entertainers and artists across three major halls.
Wizard World's attendance numbers likely paled in comparison, too. Milani said "thousands attended" Wizard World S.A. This year's Alamo City Comic Con drew a record 73,000 -- a little more than double its 35,000-plus debut in 2013.
You can still get your Wizard World Texas fix just up the road in Austin, when the event returns there next year Oct. 30-31.
