The word coming from the Daily Mail is that Christoph Waltz will be the villain in Bond 24 and he will in fact be playing Ernst Stavro Blofeld.
The Daily Mail said about the casting:
Waltz’s involvement in the new film – which has the working title ‘Bond 24’ – will be confirmed at a press conference to be held in the first week of December. Eon productions, which owns the James Bond film franchise, will announce the star is playing an unknown character called Franz Oberhauser, son of the late Hans Oberhauser, a ski instructor who acted as a father figure to Bond.
But senior sources believe the casting is a double bluff worthy of 007 himself and that Waltz is actually playing Blofeld. One Hollywood source, who asked not to be named, said: ‘Christoph Waltz is playing Blofeld in the next Bond film. The tone of the 007 films has changed significantly in recent years and the producers have changed the character to fit in with the new-look 007.’
When we heard of Waltz’s involvement last week, it was just said that he was going to be a significant character. You don’t get much more significant in the Bond universe than Blofeld. The cat-petting villain hasn’t been seen on screen in over 30 years. The character was heard and not seen other than his legs or back in From Russia With Love (1963) and Thunderball (1965). Donald Pleasence was the first face associated with the character in You Only Live Twice (1967). He was later played by Telly Savalas in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (1969), Charles Gray in Diamonds Are Forever (1971) and finally by John Hollis in For Your Eyes Only (1981). The character appeared in Never Say Never Again (1983) played by Max Von Sydow but the film is not considered an official Bond film.
