Kino Lorber Nabs U.S. Rights to Jour2fete’s ‘Steak (R)evolution’
PARIS– Jour2fete has closed key deals on Franck Ribiere’s documentary feature “Steak (R)evolution” rolling off the AFM.
Underlining the global appeal of food-related titles, the docu was acquired by Kino Lorber for the U.S., Pictures Department for Japon and Tiberius for Germany. Samuel Blanc, sales manager at Jour2fete, said the company was also closing Canada.
“Steak (R)evolution,” which garnered warm reviews off of its world premiere at San Sebastian, follows Ribière and Parisien butcher Yves-Marie Le Bourdonnec on a gourmet tour of the world’s best sirloins, from Japan to Argentina and Scotland.
The doc also raises issues surrounding mass food production through interviews with breeders, farmers, historians and business men.
“What struck us about this unique documentary was it insightful balancing of ‘issues’ around meat eating and the humane treatment of cattle with the pleasures of the palate and the pursuit of the ultimate steak,” said Richard Lorber, founder of Kino Lorber. “The film shatters so many misperceptions as it explores a subject of passion for gourmands and environmentalists alike,” added Lorber.
Kino Lorber is planning a national theatrical release during at the end of the first quarter or early second quarter.
“Steak (Re)evolution” was penned by Ribiere and Verane Frediani, the pair behind genre movie purveyor La Fabrique de Films. It’s produced by La Ferme! Prods. and C. Prods..
Jour2fete, a well-established arthouse distribution company based in Paris, released “Steak (R)evolution” on Nov.4. The outfit distributes 7 or 8 feature films theatrically and DVD/VOD every year and launched an international sales division in 2011.
At the AFM, Kino Lorber also picked up Bent Hamer’s romantic dramedy “1001 Grams.”
