AFM: Rob Zombie Sets Halloween Horror Movie ’31’
Horror icon Rob Zombie is launching production of “31” — a movie taking place on Halloween — in February.
Protagonist is introducing to the international marketplace at the American Film Market. UTA Independent Film Group packaged the film and represents North American rights.
Production companies are Spectacle Entertainment Group, with Bow + Arrow Entertainment and Protagonist Pictures. Bow + Arrow and Protagonist are co-financing. Producers are Zombie, Andy Gould of Spectacle Entertainment Group, Eddie Vaisman of Protagonist and Michael Sherman and Matthew Perniciaro of Bow + Arrow.
Zombie also recently completed a 90-day crowdfunding campaign to help finance the project.
The film follows five carnival workers who are kidnapped the night before Halloween and held hostage in a large secret compound known as Murder World, where they have 12 hours to survive a game called 31 in which murderous maniacs dressed as clowns are released to hunt them down and kill them.
“I love movies about Halloween, in fact my first film, ‘House Of 1000 Corpses,’ is set on Halloween,” Zombie said. “In looking for a new angle I found that more people go missing and are never found this day than any other in the year. I thought that’s a good premise for a film. Add in the fact that everyone I know seems to really hate clowns and now you got a film and without the fans raising funds and helping to build buzz, a crazy film like this would have been almost impossible to get off the ground. I owe the fans big time on this one.”
Zombie’s directing credits include “The Devil’s Rejects,” “The Lords Of Salem” and the 2007 and 2009 “Halloween” films. He’s represented by UTA, manager Andy Gould and attorney David Fox.
