variety.com/2014/film/news/michael-bay-eyes-action-pic-13-hours-in-benghazi-for-paramount-1201331192/Michael Bay Eyes Benghazi Pic ‘13 Hours’ for Paramount After making it clear he will not be directing the next “Transformers” pic, Michael Bay may have found a project that doesn’t involve larger-than-life robots. Sources tell Variety that Bay is in early talks to direct Paramount’s “13 Hours,” which is based on the true story recounting the attack on the U.S. Special Mission Compound and a nearby CIA Annex in Benghazi, Libya, on the 11th anniversary of Sept. 11. Chuck Hogan penned the script based on Mitchell Zuckoff’s book “Thirteen Hours: A Firsthand Account of What Really Happened in Benghazi,” to which Paramount acquired rights in February before it was published. Erwin Stoff produces through 3 Arts Entertainment’s production shingle. Bay said in August that while the next “Transformers” is already dated, he would not be returning to direct, and while this film will not feature the same elements, it still fits into his wheelhouse of action-heavy material and could bear similarities to Ridley Scott’s “Black Hawk Down” or even Bay’s own hostage pic “The Rock.” Even though the project isn’t another big-budget tentpole, Paramount is still happy to stay in business with one of its most popular on-the-lot talents. Bay is repped by WME.

variety.com/2015/film/news/john-krasinski-13-hours-casting-michael-bay-1201372268/John Krasinski to Star in Michael Bay’s Benghazi Movie ‘13 Hours’ With the “Transformers” franchise behind him, Michael Bay is already targeting production on his next film. Sources tell Variety that John Krasinski is in talks to star in Paramount’s “13 Hours,” which has Bay directing and recounts the attack on the U.S. Special Mission Compound and a nearby CIA Annex in Benghazi, Libya, on the 11th anniversary of Sept. 11. Krasinski will play one of the lead roles, a Navy SEAL, in the real-life thriller. Several actors had been reading for roles in the film, including Walton Goggins and Shea Whigham, but sources say it was Krasinski who blew Bay away in an early meeting for casting one of the starring roles. Following the end of his hit TV show “The Office,” Krasinski has been patient in finding his next project. In the past he had not normally gone after roles in tentpole pics such as “13 Hours,” preferring prestige films like “Promised Land” and the Sam Mendes movie “Away We Go.” Krasinski can be seen next in the untitled Cameron Crowe pic starring Emma Stone and Bradley Cooper. He is repped by WME

variety.com/2015/film/news/pacific-rim-actor-max-martini-joins-michael-bays-13-hours-exclusive-1201435244/Pacific Rim Actor Max Martini Joins Michael Bay’s ’13 Hours’ “Pacific Rim” actor Max Martini is in negotiations to join the cast of Michael Bay’s Benghazi thriller “13 Hours.” John Krasinski, James Badge Dale and Pablo Schreiber are already set to star. Paramount will distribute the pic, which will recount the attack on the U.S. Special Mission Compound and a nearby CIA Annex in Benghazi, Libya, on the 11th anniversary of Sept. 11. Martini will play a member of the six-man security team that fought to defend the many Americans stationed at the compound. Paramount had no comment. Chuck Hogan penned the script based on Mitchell Zuckoff’s book “Thirteen Hours: A Firsthand Account of What Really Happened in Benghazi,” to which Paramount acquired rights in February, before it was published. Erwin Stoff produces through 3 Arts Entertainment’s production shingle. Plan is to go into production this spring. Martini has made a name for himself playing tough, hard-nosed characters with military backgrounds in films like “Pacific Rim” and “Captain Phillips,” so this role should fit right in his wheelhouse. Even his character as Christian Grey’s driver in “Fifty Shades of Grey” comes off as the strong, silent type. Besides “Fifty Shades of Grey,” Martini can be seen next in Legendary’s supernatural action pic “Spectral,” which bows on Aug. 12, 2016. He is repped by ICM Partners and Annonymous Content.
