Main Street Comics and Collectibles of Minot, North Dakota, puts the emphasis firmly on nostalgia, according to owner Will Pinkey: “When somebody comes in here, I want them to be able to collect the stuff that they maybe necessarily didn’t have access to before.”

A walk into Minot's newest comic book store is a walk into a world of science fiction.
For Will Pinkey, the owner of Original Comics and Collectibles, comics are a way of life.
“I've been reading comics since I was a little kid,” Pinkey said. “I remember the only place in Minot that there was to get comics was right next to Aladdin's Castle, I don't particularly remember the name of the place, but I used to get comics there once in a while."
Will started selling collectibles out of his home, but pretty soon, it was time to branch out.
“It was just too much in my house,” he said. “My home started to get quite a bit of stuff loaded up and my wife was finally like, 'you need to open up a store.'”
Will says a store like his is something the Magic City needed.
“There wasn't really a comic book shop in Minot so I just wanted to offer that to the people here and it's been really successful so far."
Original comics and collectibles has a wide collection of comics, from DC to the Marvel Universe, and even The Walking Dead. There's the comics, but the store is so much more.
“This is what I like to call my Kenner wall,” he said, while displaying his Star Wars display. “It's basically loaded with everything from the early 90's when the special edition Star Wars came out. I have everything from the first series to the third series.”
Starting your own brick and mortar business comes with some superhero challenges, but Pinkey says he got a lot of help from his sidekicks.
“A lot of my friends helped out with the store,” he said. “My wife was a big supporter of it, she helped me.”
In the end, it's all about the customer's experience.
“It's more of a nostalgic thing than anything,” he said. “When somebody comes in here, I want them to be able to collect the stuff that they maybe necessarily didn't have access to before."
So if you're looking to escape to a galaxy far, far away, all you have to do is head to downtown Minot.
Original comics and collectibles is located at 23 South Main Street in Minot, underneath Rick's Jewelry.
They're open Monday through Saturday from 11 to 8 p.m., and Sunday from 12 to 5 p.m.
And don't forget to check them out on October 25th, where they'll be giving away some comics as part of their Halloween Comicfest.
