Written, directed and produced by Hugo Blick (“The Shadow Line”), the eight-part minseries focuses on Nessa Stein (Gyllenhaal), who witnessed the assassination of her father, an Israeli arms dealer, as a child. As an adult, inheriting her father’s company, she works to shift its purpose from supplying arms to promoting peace — but finds herself swept up in an international political maelstrom. BBC Worldwide, which made the announcement ahead of Mipcom, earlier this year pre-sold “Honorable Woman” earlier this year to HBO Nordic and Canal+ for France. In addition to Netflix, drama has also sold to Israel (HOT), Canada (CBC), Iceland (RUV), Norway (TV2), Spain (Canal+), South Africa (BBC Entertainment) and Australia (BBC First). “In the U.K. and USA, the response to ‘The Honorable Woman’ has been so strong and welcome that I am delighted to see this compelling tale of conflict and consequence have the increasing opportunity to be seen by an even wider international audience,” Blick said in a statement. Miniseries aired this summer in the States on Sundance TV. “Honorable Woman” is exec produced by Greg Brenman, in a Drama Republic and Eight Rooks Production for BBC and Sundance TV.
