variety.com/2014/film/news/alan-rickmans-a-little-chaos-sells-to-focus-features-1201316333/Focus Features has nabbed North American distribution rights to “A Little Chaos” following the period drama’s debut this month at the Toronto Film Festival. The picture will premiere stateside on March 27, 2015, signalling that the company thinks it’s more crowd-pleaser than awards contender. Alan Rickman directed the film from a screenplay he wrote with Alison Deegan and Jeremy Brock. Kate Winslet and Stanley Tucci star in the story of a female landscape designer tasked with overseeing part of Versailles gardens. Rickman does triple duty playing King Louis XIV. The film was financed by Lionsgate UK and BBC Films, in Scandinavia. It was the closing night film at Toronto and reviewers were divided on the picture’s charms. Variety reviewer Dennis Harvey griped, “A Little Chaos’ is all too tidy as it imposes a predictable, pat modern sensibility on a most unconvincing depiction of late 17th-century French aristocratic life.” Focus Features acquisition president Lia Buman and executive vice president of business affairs Beth Lemberger negotiated on behalf of the studio, and CAA brokered the deal on behalf of Lionsgate UK and Potboiler Productions.

The film was financed by Lionsgate U.K. and BBC Films in Scandinavia.
