variety.com/2014/tv/news/u-s-producer-frank-agrama-cleared-in-italys-mediatrade-case-1201268417/ROME – L.A.-based film and TV production and distribution company Harmony Gold USA has announced that its topper, U.S. producer Frank Agrama, has been acquitted of all charges in the so-called Mediatrade case in Italy, almost nine years after the start of investigations. The ruling was issued in Milan on July 8, when the court cleared executives in Italian commercial broadcaster Mediaset, including Pier Silvio Berlusconi (pictured), son of former prime minister Silvio Berlusconi, of any wrongdoing in the case centered around alleged tax fraud relating the purchase of Hollywood broadcasting rights through Mediaset’s Mediatrade subsidiary. While the fact that Piersilvio Berlusconi, and other Mediaset execs, were recently cleared of all charges in the highly publicized case was widely reported in Italy and elsewhere, Frank Agrama’s acquittal was not. Agrama, who had been Mediaset’s middleman in the deals, was accused of scheming to inflate the acquisition price of TV rights to U.S. movies so that millions of dollars in untaxed kickbacks could allegedly be diverted to top brass at Mediaset. He always maintained his innocence during the long judicial proceedings.
