Quentin Tarantino will join comics writer Matt Wagner on Dynamite Entertainment’s panel for its comic book sequel to the filmmaker’s Django Unchained, a crossover series that mashes up Best Original Screenplay Oscar winner Django and Zorro set to be released sometime this year via Dynamite and DC Entertainment. The Comic-Con panel, celebrating Dynamite’s 10th anniversary, is set for Sunday, July 27 at 2:15 PM at the San Diego Convention Center’s Room 6BCF. Comic-Con 2014 Announces Full Schedule .Not on the docket but sure to be brought up (if not by the panelists than by the usually savvy Comic-Con crowd) will be the status of Tarantino’s other Western, the much-in-the-news The Hateful Eight.
Let’s see if the writer-director spills any new news on the project, which he famously revealed to Deadline’s Mike Fleming Jr that he shelved for good as a film after copies of a first draft were leaked around town as it went out to actors’ agents. Later, Tarantino sued Gawker for $1 million for posting the script online (he subsequently dropped the suit). Then he directed a live script read in LA that revealed just how good a movie it could be. Now even Tarantino regulars like Kurt Russell are hinting a film shoot could be in production as early as next year.
This is the kind of panel potential that makes Comic-Con a must-follow, even amid all the super-hyped marketing and building-sized one-sheets the studios and networks put up all over town. Stay tuned on this one.
