variety.com/2014/tv/news/badlands-series-amc-1201261501/AMC has given a straight-to-series order to “Badlands,” a martial arts drama based loosely on the Chinese tale “Journey to the West.” “Badlands,” is created by showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar. They will exec produce with Stacy Sher and Michael Shamberg and martial arts filmmakers Daniel Wu (“Tai Chi Zero”) and Stephen Fung. Show is produced by AMC Studios and distributed internationally by Entertainment One Television (eOne). This is the third straight-to-series order for the basic cabler, following “Better Call Saul” and “The Walking Dead.” “We are incredibly excited to help Al and Miles, as well as Stacey and Michael from Double Feature to bring Badlands to life,” said Joel Stillerman, AMC’s executive vice president of original programming, production and digital content. “This creative team has so much expertise in bringing a fresh take to classic genres from their film and television experience, and their take on martial arts will be no exception. Along with a beautiful story, they’ve also assembled the A-Team of martial arts fight choreography in Daniel Wu and Stephen Fung.” The six, one-hour episodes will premiere in late 2015 or early 2016.
