The longtime Sunset Hills resident was 102. Amadee Wohlschlaeger – who professionally went only as Amadee – passed away at Mari de Villa Retirement Community in Town and Country. Amadee had a career spanning the Great Depression, World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars, sketching everyone from Dizzy Dean to Stan Musial to Jack Buck. He was one of the top 10 sports cartoonists in the country, and often drew covers for the Sporting News. One of his works inspired the "Stan the Man" statue that stands at Busch Stadium. Weatherbird – which first appeared in the Post-Dispatch in 1901 – remains the oldest, continuously published daily cartoon in the U.S. Services for Amadee are pending.
