Another Creator Paid From A Publisher That Hadn’t
Bleeding Cool has a reputation for highlighting injustices in the comics industry, whether that be creators not providing paid-for work, or publishers not paying for provided work.
Often they never make it to the website though, as once someone in question is contacted by Bleeding Cool, suddenly the creator finds that they have been paid or a purchaser suddenly received the commissioned work.
Just this week, a creator informs us that after months of receiving no response from a publisher regarding a 2012 debt, one e-mail from Bleeding Cool suddenly got them talking again.
Another buyer was reunited with a creator who told me that he simply didn’t have the buyer’s street address to send the piece and he suspected his email replies were ending up in a spam folder. Either way, it looks like the buyer will now be getting his commissioned piece from last year.
But sadly, comic creator Larry Stroman was less open or accommodating.
Soren Hjortkær writes,
I bought this Deadpool pin-up from Larry Stroman in May 2013 (yes 2013) and I still haven`t received it, because it was never sent. I also bought a commission from Larry Stroman featuring Dark Phoenix, but that`s also not received.
I have tried to contact Larry Stroman many times via comicartfans and paypal, but there has been no reply at all. He has time to post new art at Ebay though. He obviously just doesn’t care and right now it seems my money is lost or more likely stolen.
Update 27/1 2014: I have once again tried to contact Larry regarding this page and my commission. I wrote him at comicartfans, at his mail and to his ebay. No response as usual. I now consider my money stolen. If somebody can help me out I`ll gladly take some advice and action.
Update 11/3 2014: Thank you for all your mails and comments. Still not one single word from Larry Stroman. Can you believe it. What a champ.
Well we did successfully contact Stroman, best known for his work on X-Factor and Tribe. But sadly all he would give Bleeding Cool was a “no comment”… and other folk seem to have similar experiences…
