"I Survived A Zombie Apocalypse" from Endemol's Tiger Aspect will air on BBC Three, the U.K. public broadcaster's youth network, which is set to go online-only in late 2015.
LONDON – British fans of The Walking Dead will soon be able to test their survival skills in an environment mindful of the AMC hit show thanks to an upcoming BBC game show.
The BBC said Thursday that it has ordered a zombie apocalypse-themed game show from Tiger Aspect, the U.K. indie banner whose hit shows here include gangster family epic Peaky Blinders on BBC Two.
I Survived A Zombie Apocalypse will air on the U.K. public broadcaster's youth network BBC Three, which is set to go online-only in late 2015. The network has ordered seven hour-long episodes of the horror game show.
The show will feature eight contestants trapped inside a shopping mall, surrounded by the "walking dead." They have to use urban survival tactics to avoid the bite of a "zombie," according to a description of the show.
The BBC said the the ultimate goal for the contestants is to stay alive during their stay while facing tasks that are deemed necessary for their survival. The tasks will be potentially dangerous and will put them in close contact with the "zombies." One bite, and they will leave the show in "grisly style," the BBC said.
Outgoing BBC Three controller Zai Bennett billed the show as "a reality event on a huge scale," while promising it will be "a deadly twist on the [game show] genre."
The public broadcaster's entertainment commissioner Ruby Kuraishe said: "This is a tongue-in-cheek game show that will really test one’s mettle. I think people will die to be a part of it."
Executive producers for Tiger Aspect are Andrew Brereton and Sebastian Grant.
Brereton noted: "It’s nice to finally have a game show where if you get a challenge wrong, you get your arms ripped off and your brains eaten out."
