The producers behind Sharknado are giving fans a chance to be a part of the sequel.
The Asylum, the company behind last summer's Twitter phenomenon, has launched an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign to produce a new bonus scene that would appear in Sharknado 2: The Second One -- if the $50,000 goal is met.
Fans will have until May 30 to contribute, with the $50,000 used to produce the scene -- from script to special effects to final cut. Contributors will get an early look into production, which includes behind-the-scenes footage, news and advanced DVD copies.
In addition, they will receive Sharknado 2 freebies, with contributors at the highest levels receiving credits in the film. Those contributing in the "platinum rewards level," will be flown out to the Sharknado 2 premiere party and receive an associate producer credit.
"We’re going to allow you intimate access into one of the most anticipated movies of 2014," said producer Michael Latt in the video. "The scene we create with your participation... that'll be just yours." As of Friday afternoon, a little more than $2,000 had been donated.
The Asylum also plans to donate 10 percent of campaign proceeds to the R.J. Dunlap Marine Conservation Program at the University of Miami, which seeks to preserve ocean life.
This is the latest project to turn to crowdfunding, with some of the most high-profile successes being Zach Braff's Wish I Was Here and the Veronica Mars movie.
Sharknado 2 reunites Ian Ziering and Tara Reid, who are joined by Vivica A. Fox, Mark McGrath, Judah Friedlander, Kelly Osbourne, Andy Dick, Judd Hirsch, Robert Klein, Kurt Angle, Benjy Bronk and Billy Ray Cyrus. Others making cameos include Al Roker, Matt Lauer, Biz Markie, Kelly Oxford, Sandra Denton and Perez Hilton. It will bow Wednesday, July 30 at 9 p.m. on Syfy.
