NBC Buys CIA Drama 'The Last Spy' From David Guggenheim, Marc Webb & Imagine TV
EXCLUSIVE: NBC has put in development drama The Last Spy, from Designated Survivor creator David Guggenheim, The Amazing Spider-Man director Marc Webb, Imagine Television and CBS TV Studios.
Written by Guggenheim, The Last Spy is a high-octane character-driven espionage drama in which the members of an elite deep cover CIA unit are killed after their real-life identities are exposed. In the aftermath, the only operative to escape the onslaught recruits her own team of former spies and assets to complete their missions while also working to unravel the conspiracy behind who betrayed her friends and colleagues.
Guggenheim executive produces with Webb, who directs. Imagine TV’s Brian Grazer, Francie Calfo and Samie Falvey also executive produce. Jillian Kugler will oversee the project for Imagine Television. CBS TV Studios produces with Imagine TV, which is under a deal with CBS.
Guggenheim is the creator and executive producer of drama series Designated Survivor, which recently moved to Netflix with a 10-episode order, after airing for the past two broadcast seasons on ABC. Most recently, he wrote the story and is the executive producer for the Netflix holiday release of The Christmas Chronicles, starring Kurt Russell as Santa Claus.
Webb is the critically acclaimed director behind The Amazing Spider-Man, starring Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, and Sally Field, which grossed over $750 million worldwide, as well as the hit The Amazing Spider-Man 2. In television, Webb directed and executive produced Limitless for CBS, based on the film starring Bradley Cooper. He is currently an executive producer and director of Golden Globe-winning Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, which is in its fourth and final season on The CW.
Webb is repped by CAA, Anonymous Content, and Lichter, Grossman, Nichols, Adler. Guggenheim is repped by CAA, Madhouse, and Ziffren Brittenham LLP. Imagine Television is repped by CAA.
