The film is being produced by Gotham Group’s Lee Stollman and Ellen Goldsmith-Vein and Temple Hill. Fox Searchlight originally acquired screen rights in 2013 to Rock Star. Its protagonist is Amber Appleton, a high school senior who secretly lives in the back of a school bus, a situation that arose when her mother’s boyfriend kicked them out. The bus (they call it Hello Yellow) is the same one her mother uses to drive kids to school. Despite the adversity, Amber is a self-proclaimed princess of hope and girl of unyielding optimism, until a tragedy puts her optimism to the test. Director Miguel Arteta had been set to develop the project for Searchlight with Ol Parker writing the most recent version of the script. Quick is plenty busy adapting his own works, including just finishing up The Reason You’re Alive for Jay Roach. The author of course wrote the bestselling novel Silver Linings Playbook, which David O. Russell adapted and directed to eight Oscar nominations in 2013 including for its screenplay. Quick is repped by ICM Partners on behalf of Douglas Stewart at Sterling Lord Literistic.
