Dogwoof Acquires National Geographic Documentary ‘Jane’ for U.K.
Documentary specialist distributor Dogwoof has acquired Brett Morgen’s “Jane” for the U.K. and Ireland. The National Geographic Documentary Films title will be released in Britain on Nov. 24 following its European premiere Oct. 13 at the BFI London Film Festival.
Morgen’s film uses rediscovered 16mm footage from the National Geographic archives to shed fresh light on world-renowned conservationist Jane Goodall. It draws on over 100 hours of never-before-seen footage of Goodall, whose chimpanzee research challenged the male-dominated scientific consensus of her time and revolutionized the understanding of the natural world.
“Brett has an uncanny ability to completely immerse viewers in his subject matter with his signature style,” said Tim Pastore, president of original programming and production at National Geographic, in a statement. “When this footage was pulled from our archives, we couldn’t think of anyone better suited to transform this classic National Geographic material of Dr. Goodall into a modern-day masterpiece.” Pastore also serves as an executive producer on “Jane.”
The film, which features an original score by Philip Glass, saw its world premiere Sept. 10 at the Toronto Intl. Film Festival.
National Geographic and Dogwoof have also released a new trailer for the film:
