Joel Sadilek, Line Producer on 'Ingrid Goes West,' Dies at 48
The Iowa native was able to attend the film's premiere two weeks ago but was hospitalized the next day.
Joel Sadilek, a line producer on the new film Ingrid Goes West, died Tuesday at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank after a yearlong battle with cancer. He was 48.
Ingrid Goes West, the Sundance Film Festival award winner that stars Aubrey Plaza and Elizabeth Olsen, opened in theaters on Friday. Sadilek was able to attend the July 27 premiere at the ArcLight in Hollywood but was rushed to the hospital the next day.
"He had a wonderful night and was so inspired to see the film come to life and talk to the cast and crew that he had worked with," his family said in a statement.
Sadilek also was a line producer on The Experiment (2010), starring Adrien Brody; Crazy Eyes (2012), starring Lukas Haas; Cabin Fever 3: Patient Zero (2014); and Unleashed, directed by Finn Taylor and out this month.
Sadilek also wrote and directed the short films Castro's Day in Los Angeles (2001), The Summer House (2003) and The Box (2007).
Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on March 13, 1969, Sadilek attended Linn Mar High School in Marion, Iowa and then the University of Iowa, graduating with a degree in geography. He launched his own city planning company in Denver before changing careers, eventually coming to Los Angeles for film school.
Survivors include his wife Jana, parents Judith and Robert, sisters Elizabeth, Jennifer and Julie and 18 nephews and nieces.
A memorial service will take place at 3 p.m. on Sunday at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, with another service in Cedar Rapids being planned. The family has created a crowdfunding page to help with the memorial costs.
