Newcomer Maddie Hasson stars as a rebellious 16-year-old girl who yearns to escape her small town.
YouTube Red has given a series order to the Doug Liman-produced sci-fi drama Impulse.
The project, based on the third novel in Steven Gould's Jumper series, follows 16-year-old Henry as she learns that she has the ability to teleport. It will debut on Red, YouTube's $10-per-month streaming service, in 2018.
Impulse hails from Universal Cable Productions and Hypnotic. Liman directed and executive produced the pilot and is now set to executive produce the series alongside Hypnotic partners David Bartis and Gene Klein. Lauren LeFranc (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) will also executive produce and serve as showrunner.
Jeffrey Lieber (Lost) wrote the television story and also collaborated on the teleplay with Jason Horwitch (Luke Cage) and Gary Spinelli (American Made).
"This unique thriller pulled us in right from the opening scene," said YouTube global head of original content Susanne Daniels. "We are thrilled to be in business with Doug Liman and everyone at UCP and Hypnotic."
Added UCP president Jeff Wachtel: "It's always fun to start work on a new series, especially when it's with a partner like YouTube that is continually breaking new ground."
Maddie Hasson (Twisted) stars as Henry. Missi Pyle portrays her mother and Sarah Desjardins (Van Helsing) plays her step-sister. Other series regulars include Enuka Okuma (How to Get Away With Murder) and Craig Arnold (Heartland). David James Elliott is set to guest star.
The Impulse pick-up comes as YouTube is adding several new projects to its slate of subscription programming. The Google-owned streamer announced last week during VidCon that it had ordered comedy projects from Rob Huebel and Ryan Hansen.
