Software Developer Behind Cloud-Rendering System Used in Film, TV Raises Funding
Conductor Technologies, a spinoff of VFX house Atomic Fiction, completed a Series A round with participation from VFX and animation software developer Autodesk.
Conductor Technologies — the software developer behind the Conductor cloud-rendering system using in film and TV production — has closed a series A funding round led by Walden Venture Capital with participation from visual effects and animation software developer Autodesk. The amount wasn’t disclosed.
The company is a spin-off of Bay area and Montreal-based visual effects house Atomic Fiction, which developed the rendering system for use on its VFX projects. Those projects include Allied, The Walk, Deadpool, Game of Thrones, Star Trek Beyond and the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.
With the investment, the company intends to continue to develop its “rendering as a service” platform for use across the media and entertainment industry; the new version is currently in a beta testing phase.
Conductor operates with a separate team, but Atomic Fiction founder and VFX supervisor Kevin Baillie remains involved as its CEO. He said in a statement: “When starting Atomic Fiction six years ago, we really didn't want to build a traditional data center. We saw the potential impact that cloud computing could have on the industry and dove right into rendering A-list movies using the cloud. This funding round is a big boost to Conductor's mission of helping studios everywhere experience what I’ve already witnessed first-hand: the ability to work faster, be more creative and lower production costs.”
