'Birdman,' 'The Revenant' Headed to Amazon's Prime Video in New Regency Streaming Deal
The multiyear deal includes New Regency's entire film library.
Amazon's Prime Video is adding several prestigious movies to its streaming library.
The e-commerce giant has struck a multiyear, international licensing agreement for the entire film library from New Regency, including such Academy Award winners as The Revenant, Birdman and 12 Years a Slave. New Regency has a library of more than 130 films, including Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and L.A. Confidential, which will become available to Prime members next year.
"Amazon is known for offering high-quality content on Prime Video, and we are delighted to work with them to bring New Regency's prestigious library of films to new audiences around the world," reads a statement from New Regency chairman Yariv Milchan and COO Jonathan Fischer. "This ground-breaking deal is the beginning of our relationship with Amazon, and we look forward to expanding our partnership in the future."
Amazon's Prime Video service is available as part of its $99-per-year Prime subscription, which includes free shipping. It is also being offered as a stand-alone subscription for $8.99 a month. Amazon recently expanded its video streaming service internationally in more than 200 countries, and this deal will extend to those new territories.
"We are thrilled to bring Prime Video members around the world access to an amazing catalog of films from New Regency," said Amazon's worldwide head of motion pictures, Jason Ropell. "For just over a month, Prime Video members in more than 200 countries and territories have loved having access to our popular and award-winning Amazon original series and Hollywood movies and TV shows, and now with New Regency, we are giving them even more great content to enjoy."
The deal was brokered in partnership with Lionsgate Television, which distributes the company's library internationally.
