Guy Pearce is joining Paul Rudd in Ben Lewin's film The Catcher Was a Spy. Lewin is directing the film based on an adaptation of Nicholas Dawidoff’s 1994 biography The Catcher Was A Spy: The Mysterious Life of Moe Berg following a major league baseball player who also worked as a spy for the Office of Strategic Services (the U.S. intelligence agency that proceeded the CIA). Rudd will play Berg, who played as a catcher for various MLB teams including the Chicago White Sox and Cleveland Indians. During World War II, he worked as an intelligence officer, traveling on assignment to the Caribbean, South America and Europe. Pearce will have a supporting role in the film. Robert Rodat wrote the script for the project, which is produced by PalmStar Media’s Kevin Frakes and Mark Fasano with Animus Films’ Jim Young, Serena Films' Tatiana Kelly, and Michael Bederman. Buddy Patrick will exec produce. Pearce was recently seen in Drake Dorms’ sci-fi story Equals and Genius opposite Colin Firth and Jude Law. He’ll next be seen in Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant. He’s repped by CAA, UK’s Independent Talent Group, Australia’s Shanahan Management, Sloane, Offer.
