MipTV: ITV Sells Jenna Coleman Drama ‘Victoria’ to Multiple International Territories
CANNES — ITV Studios Global Entertainment has signed a host of pre-sales across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Canada for its major new drama miniseries “Victoria,” ahead of launching it to the international market Monday at the MipTV trade show in Cannes.
The eight-part drama has been acquired across the Nordics by Sweden’s TV4, Norway’s NRK, DR in Denmark and Finland’s YLE, NPO in the Netherlands, Yes in Israel, ITV Choice across Africa and by Zoomer Media’s Vision TV in Canada. These deals follow the news that the drama is set to air in the U.S. on Masterpiece on PBS in the “Downton Abbey” timeslot, in a co-production deal negotiated by ITVS GE.
“Victoria” premiered to the global market at MipTV during the new MIPDrama Screenings Sunday to an exclusive audience of more than 350 international buyers and journalists.
“Victoria” follows the early life of Queen Victoria — played by “Doctor Who’s” Jenna Coleman — from her accession to the throne at the tender age of 18 through to her courtship and marriage to Prince Albert (played by Tom Hughes). Victoria went on to rule for 63 years, and was the U.K.’s longest-serving monarch until Elizabeth II overtook her last September.
“Victoria” is a Mammoth Screen, the creators of the global hit “Poldark,” and Masterpiece co-production for ITV and PBS. It is written by novelist Daisy Goodwin.
