‘Pitch Perfect’ Writer Kay Cannon Directing Sex Comedy ‘The Pact’
Kay Cannon is making her feature directorial debut on the sex comedy “The Pact” for Point Grey, Good Universe and Hurwitz and Schlossberg Productions.
Cannon wrote both “Pitch Perfect” movie scripts and is an Emmy-nominated writer and producer for “30 Rock,” also serving as a co-executive producer and writer on “New Girl.”
Cannon’s husband, Eben Russell, has also been tapped for a rewrite on the script about three parents who, upon discovering that their daughters have made a pact to lose their virginities on prom night, go out and try and stop them before it’s too late.
Point Grey’s Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and James Weaver will produce alongside Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg and DMG Entertainment’s Chris Fenton from a script by Russell, Hurwitz and Schlossberg and brothers Brian and Jim Kehoe.
Nathan Kahane, Joe Drake and Chris Cowles will executive produce. Josh Fagen will oversee for Point Grey and Spencer Wong for Good Universe.
The project dates back to 2012 when Good Universe acquired Jim and Brian Kehoe’s comedy spec — then called “Cherries” — from Chinese media company DMG Entertainment and attached “Harold & Kumar” creators Hurwitz and Schlossberg to produce and develop the project as a potential directing vehicle.
Cannon co-produced the Universal Pictures comedy “Baby Mama” and has guest-starred on “30 Rock” and “New Girl.” She also appears in the upcoming “How to Be Single.”
Russell is currently a writer for Rob Riggle’s NFL Sunday Show.
Good Universe’s Dan Freedman negotiated the deals on behalf of producers. Cannon is represented by WME and Ken Richman at Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush & Kaller, LLP. Russell is also represented by WME.
