‘Black Ice’ Remake Set At MGM With Dylan Sellers Producing
MGM just acquired remake rights to the Finnish drama Black Ice for producer Dylan Sellers and his Rivers Edge Films. The critically acclaimed film, which was written and directed by Petri Kotwica and released in 2007, is a complex thriller that explores a love triangle between a woman, her husband and the husband’s mistress.
The rights for this project is something Sellers had been pursuing for many years but Kotwica was not willing to give them up. It soon became known that MGM’s SVP Cassidy Lange was similarly interested in the film and she and Sellers paired up to negotiate with Kotwica and bring it to the studio. The deal just closed at MGM and will soon go out as an open writing/directing assignment.
Sellers formed his new company Rivers Edge Films in a strategic partnership with Kevin Frakes’ finance/production company PalmStar Media. Under terms of the deal, Palmstar funds Sellers’ overhead, production and development. The two are expected to produce four to five films with budgets between $20 million-$40 million.
Sellers is currently producing (with Michael Lynne and Robert Shaye) the film When The Bough Breaks starring Morris Chestnut, Theo Rossi and Regina Hall. That drama/horror film is about a surrogate mother who becomes obsessed with father she is carrying the child for. Dylan had worked for Lynne and Shaye’s Unique Pictures before he was an executive at The Weinstein Company.
He most recently served for three years as the head of production at TWC where he oversaw several films including St. Vincent and the more recently released Southpaw.
