South-of-the-border scare film “MÉXICO BARBARO” gets U.S. release, DVD art
Donald Trump can’t stop this one: the horror anthology MÉXICO BARBARO now has a date to cross the border to Stateside release.
Dark Sky Films has announced that it will release MÉXICO BARBARO to DVD and digital, uncut and unrated, on November 3. The feature brings together eight of the country’s top genre directors to create tales based on local legends and mythology, “some passed down through the centuries and some new, but all equally frightening,” according to the PR. “Stories of bogeymen, trolls, ghosts, monsters, Aztec sacrifices and of course the Day of the Dead all come together in urban and rural settings to create an anthology that is as original as it is familiar and as important as it is horrifying. There’s a modern take on Hitchcock’s REAR WINDOW, a tale set in a strip club on the Day of the Dead, a rash of corpse-stealing, ancient savage Mexican traditions and decomposing dolls, among other gleefully grisly goings-on.”
The filmmakers are Jorge Michel Grau of the original WE ARE WHAT WE ARE, Isaac Ezban (upcoming Fantastic Fest award-winner THE INCIDENT), Laurette Flores, Ulises Guzmán, Edgar Nito, sound designer Lex Ortega (HERE COMES THE DEVIL, FRANKENSTEIN’S ARMY), Gigi Saul Guerrero (the short and soon-to-roll feature EL GIGANTE) and Rue Morgue Mexico coordinator Aaron Soto. The disc will retail for $24.98; special features, if any, have yet to be announced. Look for a feature story on MÉXICO BARBARO in the forthcoming Fango #345.
