‘Brooklyn Animal Control’ Comic Gets USA Drama Pilot Order, David Goyer Producing
USA Network continues to widen the development net it casts with the pickup of a comic book-based drama. The network has greenlighted Brooklyn Animal Control, based on the IDW Publishing comic created by JT Petty. Written and executive produced by Petty, the pilot also is executive produced by David S. Goyer (Batman v Superman) as well as Circle of Confusion’s Rick Jacobs (Spare Parts) and David Alpert (The Walking Dead), and IDW Entertainment’s David Ozer and Ted Adams.
Brooklyn Animal Control follows the inner workings of a secret subdivision of the NYPD that functions as social services for some of the city’s most unique citizens — werewolves. Delving into the lives of both the Case Officers, and the secretive, highly insular Kveld-Ulf, a community of werewolves living deep in the borough, the drama will examine city politics, immigrant communities, and families divided by ambition, secrecy, and tradition.
“Fans of the comic book know that Brooklyn Animal Control is a thriller anchored inside the world of New York organized crime families,” said USA’s EVP Jackie de Crinis. “At its core, it is a family drama, albeit an unconventional one.”
The order to Brooklyn Animal Control comes on the heels of USA’s pilot pickup of another high-concept thriller, Poor Richard’s Almanack, which weaves between modern day and a possible future and revolves around a cadre of heroes who emerge as America’s new “Founding Fathers.” Additionally, USA has supernatural drama pilot Falling Water and period Hollywood drama Paradise Pictures.
Brooklyn Animal Control is a co-production with Universal Cable Productions and IDW Entertainment.
