Whitford will play Hubert Humphrey alongside Cranston, Melissa Leo and Anthony Mackie. Shooting begins next month. Executive produced by Steven Spielberg, the film covers LBJ (Cranston) from the moment the assassination of John F. Kennedy made Johnson the 36th president of the United States, and through a turbulent first year that included leveraging his power to pass civil rights legislation in Congress, up to his landslide re-election victory. Whitford nabbed an Emmy nomination last week for guest actor in a comedy for his role as Mark/Marci in Transparent. He’s set as a recurring for Season 2 of the Amazon series. Whitford previously won an Emmy for The West Wing (2001). Other TV credits include Happyish and Trophy Wife. Whitford is repped by WME and Greenlight Management.
