One more than previously thought, possibly.
What if another Avenger showed up in next year's Captain America: Civil War?
Not content with featuring Cap, Iron Man, Hawkeye, Black Widow, the Falcon, the Scarlet Witch, the Vision and War Machine — and non-Avengers Ant-Man and Black Panther — it's now beginning to look like the Hulk might make an appearance as well. Possibly.
In an interview with The Daily Beast, Mark Ruffalo — who plays the Hulk's pale alter ego Bruce Banner — said that he doesn't actually know whether he's going to appear in next summer's slam-bang superhero clash, but has heard rumors that it'll happen. "I was talking to Robert Downey Jr. the other day, and he said, 'Ruffalo! I heard you're coming out here,'" he said. "I said, 'OK! I'll be there.'"
That said, it's far from a done deal. "I haven't seen a script, nobody's told me, and I don't have dates," he said, adding that he "can only hope" that he'll make an appearance. (The movie's officially announced cast includes a Hulk connection, interestingly enough; William Hurt is scheduled to reprise his General Thunderbolt Ross role from the 2008 Incredible Hulk movie.)
"I like the cultural significance of it, as an art project," Ruffalo said when talking appearing in the Marvel movies. "It’s crossing into all kinds of cultures, and belief systems, and ideologies. It’s hitting a lot of boxes, and really specialized boxes, too. And ultimately, the messaging of it is pretty good! It has a decency about it. I always feel like this is our modern mythology, in a way. We’ve been doing this since the time we could draw on cave walls. This is our version of it now, but we’re still working out the same stuff—violence, brotherhood, and more."
Captain America: Civil War is scheduled for release May 6, 2016. How long before we start hearing rumors about a Chris Hemsworth Thor cameo to complete the set…?
