Former eOne Film Chief Patrice Théroux Boards ‘ReincarNATE’ Series Adaptation
Lining up one of his first projects since he departing eOne last fall, former head of the company’s global film division, Patrice Théroux, has boarded comic adaptation ReincarNATE. Théroux has entered a deal with Toronto-based Buck Productions, which is developing the graphic novel as a one-hour supernatural crime drama, and will executive produce with Buck’s Sean Buckley.
Based on the comic books by writer Michael Moreci and illustrator Keith Burns, a pilot has been penned by shorts director James Cooper (Interview With A Time Traveler). ReincarNATE focuses on down-on-his-luck private eye Nate McCoy. After being shot in the head during an investigation, Nate gains the ability to interact with versions of himself from past lives: Jameson, a wild west lawman; and Alan, a contract killer from the 1960s. With their help, Nate takes on the dangerous underworld, crooked cops, and scumbags, including El Panda, a criminal heavyweight who may have been responsible for the murder of his father.
Moreci is well-known to comics afficonados having also written Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes (Boom! Studios), Roche Limit (Image Comics) and Hoax Hunters (Image Comics/Heavy Metal), which is being developed into a feature. Heavy Metal is also re-releasing the ReincarNATE trade paperback in November 2015, with a new series set for release next year.
“I was taken by the graphic novel and the wild imagination of Moreci,” Théroux says. “It’s a perfect blend of a detective serial and the supernatural, but steeped in great characters and a visually rich world. It’s a great mix of Gotham and The Sixth Sense.” Théroux joined eOne in 2007 and exited about two years after the group took over rival Alliance. His credits include Maps To The Stars, What If, The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus, The Bang Bang Club and The Captive.
Buckley adds, “With Patrice’s experience in the international market and genre projects being so hot right now, not to mention Michael’s amazingly rich story and James’ adaptation, we now have the team that can take ReincarNATE to the next level.” Buckley’s EP credits include A Beginner’s Guide To Endings, Defendor, Running Mates, and 2014 Toronto selection Wet Bum.
Moreci and ReincarNATE are repped by Jason Yarn Literary Agency.
