LBGT Rom-Com ‘Portrait of a Serial Monogamist’ Acquired by Wolfe
Wolfe Releasing has acquired U.S. rights for LBGT romantic comedy “Portrait of a Serial Monogamist,” ahead of its world premiere at the Inside Out LBGT Film Festival in Toronto.
Wolfe plans to release “Portrait” for theatrical, DVD, VOD and digital platforms in late 2015 or early 2016. The story follows a fortysomething television producer after she breaks up with her long-term girlfriend to pursue a younger woman, and realizes she may have made a mistake.
Written and directed by John Mitchell and Christina Zeidler, the film is set in Toronto’s Queen West LBGT community. Diane Flacks, Carolyn Taylor, Sabrina Jalees, Caroline Gillis, Shoshana Sperling, Dawn Whitwell and Vanessa Dunn star.
“Portrait of a Serial Monogamist” will have a world premiere on May 31 at the closing night gala of the Inside Out LBGT Film Festival in Toronto, and then screen at the Frameline International LGBTQ Film Festival in June.
The film was produced by Mehernaz Lentin and Christina Zeidler, and is a production of Industry Pictures Inc. and Chosen Waters Productions. It was supported by an Indiegogo campaign, a private community, and by the Canadian film tax credit and the Ontario film and television tax credit.
The deal was negotiated by Jim Stephens, president of Wolfe Releasing, and Marina Cordoni on behalf of film’s sales agent Marina Cordoni Entertainment, who represents Industry Pictures and Chosen Waters Productions.
“Serial Monogamist” is “an unusually smart romantic comedy that tackles commitment issues with originality and surprising humor. It’s a standout feel-good movie, and we look forward to releasing this film for all U.S. audiences,” Stephens said.
“This is not just another LGBT film,” Cordoni said. “This is a movie about the ‘coming-of-middle-age.’ Wonderfully shot in the popular urban city of Toronto, this fun comedy transcends age and sexuality to highlight the challenges we all face with love. Wolfe Releasing is a sophisticated distributor with their finger on the pulse of the U.S. market. We are so excited to be working with them.”
