deadline.com/2015/04/fox-searchlight-acquiring-paolo-sorrentino-youth-cannes-trailer-1201417452/Fox Searchlight Nearing Deal For Paolo Sorrentino’s ‘Youth’ – Cannes Oscar winner Paolo Sorrentino’s Youth is running in Competition at the Cannes Film Festival next month. In what would mark the first domestic deal since the Official Selection was unveiled, I’ve learned that Fox Searchlight is in discussions to acquire the English-language drama that stars Michael Caine, Rachel Weisz, Jane Fonda, Harvey Keitel and Paul Dano. If a deal makes, Searchlight would take North American rights. This is Sorrentino’s first feature since taking the Foreign Language Oscar for The Great Beauty in 2014; it was also a Cannes competitor. Youth is not his first effort in English, however. He previously made This Must Be The Place with Sean Penn in the lead role. Youth is centered on two longtime friends vacationing in the Swiss Alps. Caine plays Fred, an acclaimed composer and conductor and Keitel is Mick, a renowned filmmaker. While Mick scrambles to finish the screenplay for what he imagines will be his last important film, Fred has no intention of resuming his musical career. The two men reflect on their past, each finding that some of the most significant experiences can come later in life. Producers are Carlotta Carlori, Francesca Cima and Nicola Giuliana. Pathé is handling sales. Sorrentino is repped by UTA. Check out the teaser trailer above.
