Samuel Goldwyn Films has acquired U.S. rights to Morgan Matthews’ A Brilliant Young Mind, the drama previously titled X+Y when it debuted in the fall at the Toronto Film Festival. Based on Matthews’ 2007 documentary, the feature scripted by James Graham stars Asa Butterfield (Hugo) as a teenage math prodigy on the autistic spectrum who faces challenges when he is selected to compete in the International Mathematics Olympiad. Sally Hawkins, Rafe Spall and Eddie Marsan co-star. A summer release is planned.
“We are excited to bring this incredibly moving and inspiring film to audiences around the country,” said Peter Goldwyn of Samuel Goldwyn Films. “The cast has tremendous chemistry and they each deliver remarkable performances. They will have you rooting for them from the beginning to the end of the film.”
