Canyon Creek Films Acquires YA Horse Race Novel ‘The Glory’ By Lauren St John
Love, Rosie producer Simon Brooks has acquired film rights to Lauren St John’s YA novel The Glory which follows two very different teens who embark on a 1,200 mile horse race across the American west. The title was published by Orion Children’s Books on March 5 in the UK where it’s been called a “National Velvet for modern teenagers.”
Brooks will produce via his LA- and London-based Canyon Creek Films, along with Joan Singleton who introduced him to the project. Singleton wrote the screenplay for and produced Fox’s 2005 family film Because Of Winn-Dixie.
The Glory follows British teenager Alexandra Blakewood who is sent by her parents to a boot camp for troubled teens in Colorado. Her dreams of escaping seem futile until the accomplished rider hears about The Glory, a grueling and deadly race of endurance that comes with a purse of $250,000. Meanwhile, in Tennessee, star high school student Will Greyton is forced to work in a burger joint when his father falls ill. When Will hears about the race, he sets off to win the prize money and pay for an operation to save his dad.
St John is a former longtime golf correspondent for The Sunday Times and has written several books on sports and music. Her children’s fiction includes Dead Man’s Cove, which won the 2011 Blue Peter Book of the Year Award; The White Giraffe series and The One Dollar Horse trilogy.
Brooks acquired rights to The Glory from Rebecca Watson at Valerie Hoskins Associates on behalf of Catherine Clarke at Felicity Bryan Associates.
