Maria Lynn Retires From Wolfe Releasing, Jim Stephens Named President
There’s a changing of the guard at Wolfe Releasing, with co-president Maria Lynn stepping down after 22 years heading the gay and lesbian film distributor.
She is retiring at the end of March. Her co-president Jim Stephens will take the reins and assume the role of president. Stephens, a producer on “Love Is Strange” and “Ten Thousand Saints,” joined the company in December.
“From the beginning, Maria has been a passionate supporter of LGBT films and filmmakers,” said Kathy Wolfe, the company’s founder, in a statement. “She has played an integral role in the growth of our company, and we will miss her incredible talent, dedication and passion.”
During her tenure at Wolfe, Lynn helped the company respond to changes in distribution from the birth of video and DVD to the emergence of online streaming.
“Wolfe has been an amazing journey, and I will forever be grateful for the experience of working with our partners, filmmakers and the Wolfe Pack,” said Lynn in a statement.
In addition to his film credits, Stephens served on the board of directors of Frameline, the nonprofit media arts organization that produces the San Francisco International LGBT Film Festival and was the board president in 2013. Previously he was senior VP of worldwide sales and field operations at Adobe Systems.
Wolfe is celebrating its 30th anniversary year. Its upcoming films include the gay historical drama “The Circle”; the coming-of-age drama “Boy Meets Girl”; the gay teen romance “Boys”; and “Eat With Me,” a family drama with George Takei.
