‘Moonwalkers’ Action Comedy Lands At Alchemy – SXSW
Alchemy has acquired North American rights to Antoine Bardou-Jacquet’s Moonwalkers, the indie starring Ron Perlman, Rupert Grint and Robert Sheehan. The deal was sealed at the still-rolling SXSW, where it had its world premiere Saturday in the Narrative Spotlight section
The action comedy centers on a world in which Apollo 11 never actually made it, and Stanley Kubrick secretly shot the famous images of the moon landing in a studio, working for the U.S. government. In this case, though, a stubborn CIA agent (Perlman) can’t locate Kubrick in 1960s London, and instead is forced to team with a lousy manager (Grint) of a seedy rock band to develop the biggest con of all time. Dean Craig penned the pic.
Georges Bermann (Partizan Films) produced and Sylvain Goldberg, Serge de Poucques, Peter de Maegd, Tom Hameeuw and Grégoire Melin are co-producers. Alchemy, which is continuing its ramp-up under Lee as a stand-alone distribution and library outfit with a brand new name, was repped in the deal by VP Acquisitions Jeff Deutchman, who negotiated Melin and Ram Murali of Kinology and UTA Independent Film Group on behalf of the filmmakers.
“Moonwalkers is a wildly imaginative, one-of-a-kind action movie,” said Alchemy’s Bill Lee. “Antoine Bardou- Jacquet has crafted something truly original that we look forward to bringing to a wide audience.”
Alchemy has been active since rebranding from Millennium Entertainment, most recently landing the high-profile Sundance Film Festival title Strangerland starring Nicole Kidman, Joseph Fiennes and Hugo Weaving.
