If the deal makes it will be the latest YA book-to-film play from the studio that has reaped such enormous windfalls for Summit’s The Twilight Saga and its own The Hunger Games. Alloy Entertainment would produce based on its book series. Blackbird was published in September by HarperTeen. Written in the second person, its follows a young girl who wakes up on the tracks of the Los Angeles subway with no memory; a tattoo on her wrist of a blackbird and a code; and a backpack containing clothes, $1,000, a phone number and instructions not to call the police. The only thing she knows for sure is that people are trying to kill her, and a thrilling game of cat-and-mouse ensues. Alloy’s Les Morgenstein and Elysa Dutton are overseeing for the production company. Mackey, a onetime minor-league pitcher, previously adapted School Of Fear for Red Crown Pictures and also has sold a comedy pilot, Jackass Of All Trades, to TBS with writing partner Seth Fisher with John Krasinski aboard as executive producer. Mackey is repped by Paradigm, Circle of Confusion and lawyer Myman Abel.
