Billy Zane to Star in Australia’s ‘Blue World Order’
“Titanic” star Billy Zane is to star in “Blue World Order” an Australian-made sci-fi action adventure directed by Ché Baker and Dallas Bland.
The picture also stars Australian screen legend Jack Thompson (“The Man from Snowy River,” “In the Garden of Good and Evil,” and “The Great Gatsby”) and Jake Ryan (“The Great Gatsby,” TV’s “Underbelly”).
The story involves Ryan as a reluctant hero who discovers an unknown civilisation, which he wrongly believes may hold the key to curing his comatose daughter.
Principal photography wrapped this week after location shooting in and around the Australian federal capital Canberra, which is a relatively rare location for film-making. Production is by Canberra-based Full Point Films and producer Sarah Mason.
The film is set for release in early 2016. Arclight Films will handle international sales. Label is set as the local distributor.
“’Blue World Order’ has been completely independently financed through a group of investors who have a passion for film and for growing the creative industry in Australia,” Mason told Variety.
“We have not received any federal or state funding to produce the feature. We have, however, received a provisional certificate from Screen Australia which means we will be able to claim the producer offset for Qualifying Australian Production Expenditure once the film is complete.”
Other cast includes veteran actor, Bruce Spence (“Mad Max”), New Zealand actor Stephen Hunter (“The Hobbit”) Boludé Fakuade and child actress Billie Rutherford.
