The film from Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners) will get a limited release on Sept. 18, 2015 before expanding to wide release on Sept. 25, the company announced Monday. It stars Emily Blunt, Benicio del Toro, Josh Brolin, Jon Bernthal (Fury, The Walking Dead) and Daniel Kaluuya (Skins). It centers on an idealistic FBI agent (Blunt) who is enlisted by a government task force to take out a Mexican drug cartel leader in the lawless border area between the U.S. and Mexico. Taylor Sheridan wrote the script. It will open on Sept. 18 against the YA adaptation sequel The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials from Fox, Universal's mountain-climbing drama Everest and Warner Bros.' Black Mass, which stars Johnny Depp as real-life Boston gangster Whitey Bulger. On Sept. 25, it'll join the Nancy Meyers dramedy The Intern from Warner Bros., Relativity's supernatural thriller The Disappointments Room and Sony's animated Hotel Transylvania 2. Basil Iwanyk's Thunder Road Pictures produced Sicario with Black Label Media and Edward McDonnell. Black Label, run by Molly Smith and Thad and Trent Luckinbill, financed the film.
