Dave Franco and Emma Roberts to Star in YA Thriller ‘Nerve’
Dave Franco and Emma Roberts have closed deals to star in the Lionsgate YA thriller “Nerve.”
Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman are directing, with Allison Shearmur producing through her banner along with Anthony Katagas.
Based on the Jeanne Ryan novel, the pic follows a high school senior who finds herself immersed in an online game of truth of dare, where her every move starts to become manipulated by an anonymous community of “watchers.”
Jessica Sharzer adapted the script.
Erik Feig, Jeyun Choi and Jessica Switch are overseeing for the studio. Stephen Meinen, VP at Allison Shearmur Productions, will also oversee the production.
No stranger to the YA genre (“The Hunger Games”), Lionsgate is now looking for its next big score in that realm and sees potential in this property especially with Franco and Roberts climbing the ranks of young stars on the verge of breaking out.
Franco has been on a roll between the “21 Jump Street” pics and “Now You See Me” series, which recently wrapped production on its next installment. He also saw his profile rise this last summer when he co-starred in “Neighbors” with Seth Rogen and Zac Efron.
Roberts has gained a lot of attention lately from her television work on the “American Horror Story” series and upcoming “Scream Queens” as well as her bigscreen credits that include “We’re the Millers” and James Franco’s Sundance pic “I Am Michael.”
Both actors are repped by CAA with Roberts also repped by Sweeney Entertainment.
