deadline.com/2015/01/benched-cancelled-usa-one-season-1201350501/Comedy ‘Benched’ Cancelled By USA USA Network’s comedy series Benched will not be coming back for a second season. The courtroom comedy starring Eliza Coupe and Jay Harrington had a quiet run, which concluded December 30, averaging 800,000 viewers and 300,000 adults 18-49 in Live+Same Day. When USA scaled back its original comedy series portfolio, the network stressed its commitment to its current series — Sirens, Playing House and Benched. Sirens and Playing House have been renewed for a second season. Like Benched, Playing House had pretty low Live+SD ratings but had a sizable DVR bump and a big spike in VOD viewing, leading to USA’s decision to bring the show back in a different business model where episodes premiere on VOD. Meanwhile, Benched, which received OK reviews, has not been getting a lift in delayed viewing, contributing to the network’s decision not to go forward with a second season. The series’ ratings might have been hurt by the fact that its premiere date was moved up, so it debuted earlier than anticipated against original fall programming on the broadcast networks.
