The funding brings the startup to $9.4 million raised to date. Union Square Ventures, which led a $3.2 million Series A investment round in VHX last year, participated in the most recent round along with several of the company’s seed investors: Lerer-Hippeau Ventures, Lowercase Capital, Alexis Ohanian, film producer Keith Calder and John Johnson, co-founder of BuzzFeed and founder of Eyebeam. VHX lets filmmakers and other content creators set up digital storefronts to sell video directly to consumers. Two of the higher-profile titles the startup has distributed are AwesomenessTV’s high-school comedy film “Expelled,” starring Vine celebrity Cameron Dallas, and “Camp Takota,” featuring top YouTubers Grace Helbig, Hannah Hart and Mamrie Hart. New York-based VHX was founded in 2011 by CEO Jamie Wilkinson and former Vimeo exec Casey Pugh.
