He was 94. Steinberg co-founded Mercury Records in Chicago and served as CFO-CEO for several years. Eventually, he became chairman-CEO of Polygram Records, with which he was affiliated for over 30 years. After retiring from Polygram he taught and created graduate curricula in the music business for Columbia College of the Arts in Chicago and became an innovator in the digital music industry, consulting for several avant-garde enterprises including MusicMaker. Steinberg was a Chicago native and graduated from the University of Chicago. He served in the Air Corps and then began his long career in the music industry. He is survived by his wife, Dominique Moyse; three children and their partners; four grandchildren; two sisters; and a large extended family.
