www.f4wonline.com/more/more-top-stories/118-daily-updates/40534-al-greene-passes-awayAl Greene passes away Albert Denny, one of the biggest stars of Tennessee Wrestling in the 60s and 70s as Al Greene of the tag team The Mean Greenes, passed away on Saturday at the age of 86. According to Jerry Jarrett, Denny woke up on Saturday and complained of a fever, and when his wife went to get a thermometer, she returned and he had passed away. Al & Don Greene, also called The Heavenly Bodies, were one of the top heel tag teams in a territory at the time built on tag team matches. Al was the talker, and the man with the charisma, while Don was the worker inside the ring, and the two complemented each other well. In 1971, when wrestling moved in Memphis from the Ellis Auditorium to the larger Mid South Coliseum, because of the big crowds Jackie Fargo had been drawing against The Greene Brothers, Al & Don Greene headlined the first 16 shows at the new arena. The Jackie Fargo vs. Al Greene hair vs. hair match in 1972, which Greene won, remains one of the most famous matches in Memphis history, and was the first legitimate wrestling sellout at the Coliseum. Jarrett posted on his Facebook page at www.facebook.com/jerry.w.jarrett?pnref=story a story on Greene.
