GSN Developing Horror-Themed Show with ‘Paranormal Activity’ Producer
The Game Show Network is expanding its lineup for 2015. GSN has ordered a second season of original series “Idiotest”, and has ordered numerous new projects, including horror-themed game show “Hellevator” from Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Prods.
“Hellevator” features contestants entering a warehouse via an ominous-looking elevator, where they compete in a series of scary, suspenseful and emotionally taxing challenges. Only survivors make it out as winners. Series is produced by Matador and Blumhouse Prods., known for the “Paranormal Activity” feature franchise, in association with Lionsgate Television. Matador’s Jay Peterson and Todd Lubin will executive produce.
“GSN has taken some big swings in development over the past year, pushing our brand into exciting new areas while still maintaining our leadership position in the traditional game show genre,” said David Schiff, senior VP of programming and development at GSN. “That push is paying off, both in the diversity of projects that we’re working on, and in the increased amount of break-out original programming like ‘Skin Wars’ and ‘Idiotest.’”
Also in the works are:
“App Wars,” hosted by Danica McKellar (“The Wonder Years”), where app creators compete for the best idea and must functional app. “App Wars” is exec produced by Cheri Brownlee and Barry Hennessey through Cheri Sundae Prods.
“Steampunk’d,” following contestants challenged to combine objects from past and present to create futuristic designs and inventions. Kimberly Belcher Ehrhard, John Ehrhard (“Hogan Knows Best”) and Lauren Stevens of Pink Sneakers Prods. will executive produce.
“Bingo Bash,” which pits one player each week against online opponents in the digital app.
“Winsanity,” where one contestant attempts to organize seven facts in numerical order. Each successful ranking wins prizes for the team and the audience. Barry Poznick (“Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?”) of Barracuda Television Prods. will executive produce along with Chris Grant and Corie Henson of Electus.
“Face 2 Face,” a studio-based dating series, using an app to drive a search for each contestant’s ideal physical “type.” The dater can see and hear the singles selected as potential matches and will have access to social media, though the singles are not. When the dater selects one match the tables will turn. Series is based on a Keshet International format and is produced by Keshet DCP.
