Joby Harold wrote the the script and is producing with Ritchie, Lionel Wigram, Akiva Goldsman and Tory Tunnell. Plot details are under wraps with the pic set to open on July 22, 2016. Niija Kuykendall and Cate Adams are overseeing for the studio. The plan is for the film to kickstart another franchise for the studio, with the story to be told over six installments. It’s unknown whether Law would be appearing in one movie or play a villain throughout the course of the franchise. Ritchie is currently seeing actors for the part of Arthur’s mentor, the last major role to be cast before the film goes into production. Idris Elba was originally in contention, but a deal could not be reached and the two sides parted ways. The project marks a reunion between Law and Ritchie, following the former’s role as Dr. John Watson in the director’s “Sherlock Holmes” franchise. Law, who is repped by WME and LBI Entertainment, will next be seen in the action pic “Black Sea,” which bows Jan. 23.

Charlie Hunnam will play Arthur, with Astrid Berges-Frisbey playing Guinevere. Jude Law is also in talks for the role of the villain. Ritchie will direct with a script from Joby Harold. Ritchie and Harold are also producing along with Lionel Wigram, Akiva Goldsman and Tory Tunnell. Plot details are being kept under wraps, though the pic is set to open on July 22, 2016. For Bana, the role isn’t the biggest, but the studio and Ritchie were always looking for a big name for the part to make a splash for the time he is onscreen, originally going to Liam Neeson before circling back with Bana. Bana, who is repped by WME, recently wrapped production on Disney’s “The Finest Hours” and is also attached to star in the spy action comedy “Special Correspondents,” which has Ricky Gervais writing and directing as well as Jim Sheridan’s “The Secret Scripture.”

deadline.com/2015/03/annabelle-wallis-joins-knights-of-the-roundtable-king-arthur-guy-ritchie-1201394069/Annabelle Wallis Joins Guy Ritchie’s ‘Knights Of The Roundtable: King Arthur’ Busy British actress Annabelle Wallis has been cast in Guy Ritchie’s epic project Knights Of The Roundtable: King Arthur. I’ve learned that the Annabelle star will play Maid Maggie in the film that sees Charlie Hunnam as the man who pulled the sword from the stone. Warner Bros has dated it for July 22, 2016. Joby Harold wrote the screenplay for the tentpole, which is intended to kick off a six-film franchise culled from Arthurian lore. Astrid Berger Frisby, Jude Law, Eric Bana, Djimon Hounsou, Aiden Gillen and Mikael Persbrandt also star. Akiva Goldsman is producing through Weed Road with Harold and Tory Tunnell through Safehouse Pictures and Ritchie and partner Lionel Wigram. Warners released a synopsis for the film this month, calling it a bold new story that introduces a streetwise young Arthur who runs the back alleys of Londonium with his gang, unaware of the life he was born for until he grasps hold of the sword Excalibur. Instantly challenged by the sword’s power, Arthur is forced to make some hard choices. Throwing in with the Resistance and a mysterious young woman named Guinevere, he must learn to master the sword, face down his demons and unite the people to defeat the tyrant Vortigern — who murdered his parents and stole his crown — and become king. Wallis is next up in Louis Letterier’s Grimsby with Sacha Baron Cohen and Mark Strong. She also will be seen opposite Armie Hammer in Mine, written and directed by Fabio Resinaro and Fabio Guaglione. Last year, the fast-rising Wallis starred in Warners’ horror hit Annabelle, which ultimately earned $255M worldwide. The actress also appears in popular BBC drama Peaky Blinders. She’s repped in the U.S. by ICM and Untitled Entertainment and by United Agents in the UK.
