variety.com/2014/film/news/warner-bros-wonder-woman-1201282507/Sources tell Variety that “Breaking Bad” producer/director Michelle MacLaren is in talks to direct “Wonder Woman,” starring Gal Gadot. Charles Roven will produce the Warner Bros. and DC standalone film with a tentative release date of June 23, 2017. Warner Bros. had no comment on this story. Plot details of the Wonder Woman feature are unknown. It’s also unclear whether or not this will be an origin film since the Wonder Woman character will first make her appearance in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” which opens in March 2016. Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara recently announced the DC slate at an investor meeting last month, which includes new DC/Justice League films from Batman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman and more. Over the years there have been many attempts to produce Wonder Woman film adaption of the popular comic book character, with “The Avengers” director Joss Whedon most recently flirting with the project. WB also seems to be emulating what Universal did with “Fifty Shades of Grey” by hiring a female director to tackle the female-centric material. MacLaren, repped by ICM Partners, has made a name for herself in television over the past couple of years with hit shows like “Game of Thrones,” “The Walking Dead” and “Breaking Bad.” Given the cinematic feeling of her TV episodes, the leap to big-budget makes even more sense. According to sources, Warner Bros. EVP of Production and Development Greg Silverman has always been a fan of MacLaren’s work and had been trying for awhile to find the right project for her. Gadot, star of “Wonder Woman,” is expected to star in two more Justice League films in addition to “Batman v Superman” and the “Wonder Woman” standalone.
