Unveiled at the AFM, the pact was negotiated between Wild Bunch’s Vincent Maraval and Stone’s longtime producing partner, Moritz Borman. Pic is currently in pre-production in Munich and lensing will begin in January 2015. Stone and Borman acquired rights to the novel “Time of the Octopus” written by Snowden’s Russian lawyer, Anatoly Kucherena as well as Luke Harding’s “The Snowden Files: The Inside Story of the World’s Most Wanted Man.” “Citizenfour,” the Edward Snowden docu premiered last month at the New York Film Festival. Stone’s pic adds to Wild Bunch’s growing slate of high-profile English-language indies, which include Jean-Francois Richet’s “Blood Father” with Mel Gibson. Wild Bunch boasts a pan-European distribution network encompassing theatrical, TV and video distribution in France (Wild Bunch Distribution and Wild Side), Italy (BIM), Germany (Wild Bunch Germany) and Spain (Vertigo). The Paris-based company has also just launched a pan-European digital distribution company that will be dedicated to releasing independent movies.
