variety.com/2014/music/news/mark-bell-dies-lfo-bjork-1201328871/Mark Bell, who helped bolster the electronic music scene with LFO and produced for Bjork and Depeche Mode, died last week, according to his label Warp Records. “It’s with great sadness that we announce the untimely passing of Mark Bell of LFO who died last week from complications after an operation,” Warp Records wrote on its website. “Mark’s family & friends request privacy at this difficult time.” Bell formed LFO with Gez Varley in 1988. The two would go onto pioneer acid house music in the U.K., scoring their first Top 20 hit with the self-titled single “LFO.” Varley quit LFO in 1996, but Bell continued using the moniker for his own work. Around that time, he also turned his focus to producing. Bell first worked with Bjork, producing “I Go Humble,” a bonus track off of her “Post” album, in 1995. He then worked on her albums, starting with “Homogenic” in 1997 and going through 2011’s “Biophilia.” Bell’s also known for his work with Depeche Mode, having produced 2001’s “Exciter.” Monday morning, Bjork posted a Bell remix of one of her songs, “Possibly Maybe,” on her Facebook page.
